Abandoned for three decades, this once-iconic Denver Sinclair gas station built in 1954 was given a new lease on life as an award-winning Snarf’s Sandwich shop. The concrete masonry block building badly in need of structural repairs was given a complete overhaul both inside and out. Interior load-bearing walls were removed to open up the space and replaced with steel beams and columns left exposed as a nod to its industrial beginnings. Glazed white brick now clads the exterior in lieu of peeling paint and dented metal panels and aluminum framed glass overhead doors replaced the former dilapidated wood garage openings allowing both light and direct access to the inviting outdoor patio. The buildings’ most unique original feature, the triangular shaped overhang that spikes upwards and out from the building’s facade supported by the original signage post partially covers the new outdoor patio. Snarf’s signature brightly colored interior finishes breath new life into this now popular and lively fast-casual neighborhood restaurant.

Soon after the restaurant’s opening it received the 2018 Remix award from Historic Denver, one of the nation’s premier non-profit urban historic preservation organizations working to protect and promote Denver’s historic places.
