Just north of Boulder lies a quiet community set amid views of the Rocky Mountain Front Range. This quaint cottonwood-shaded downtown is surrounded with ample sized lots that have become quite desirable. The 1970’s home was located in a pleasant neighborhood but, the tired and dated split level house desperately needed updating. The client desired a house that would capture the views of the mountains, be connected to the outdoors and have an open floor plan that flowed from one major living space to another suitable for entertaining. The most impactful change to both the house visually that allowed to achieve these main goals was to remove the existing gable roof completely, replacing it with two tall shed roofs, each going in different directions forming somewhat of a modified “detached” butterfly roof. The new ceiling soars to 14’ allowing for windows twice as high as the originals. The two new walls of windows and the addition of a large wrap around deck accessible by two sets of French doors provide stunning views of the snow capped Rockies and the outdoor connection so valued in Colorado. The removal of walls that separated the kitchen, dining room and living room allowed for an easy flow and a feeling of spaciousness.

The new form of the house and the completely re-clad neutral tones of the fire resistant siding, stone and steel echos the mountains and natural surroundings. The richness of the exterior is carried throughout the interior of the house making the transition from outdoor to indoor seamless. The end result will transform the dark and outdated home to a modern retreat built for entertaining and comfortable living.
